Backyard Birds

Beta Hatch produces the only whole dried mealworms raised in the U.S. for backyard poultry at our indoor, vertical farm in Washington State. We use feed-grade by-products from Wenatchee Valley farms to feed our insects, ensuring the safest, most nutritious treats for backyard chickens and wild birds.

Commercial Fish & Shrimp

Mealworms are a preferred insect for replacing fishmeal and can make up to 80% of farmed fish diets. Mealworms are more nutrient dense than other farmed insects and and naturally contain important nutrients including riboflavin, folacin and vitamins E and B12.

Unlike plant-based meals, which can cause inflammation in fish digestive tracts and contain an unbalanced amino acid profile, mealworms offer a complete and customizable amino acid profile, and are both highly digestible and highly palatable.

Companion Animals

Mealworms offer an ideal alternative protein for food-allergic pets. Dogs have been shown to prefer the taste of mealworm-based foods to other hypoallergenic alternatives. Insect-based pet foods provide an opportunity for pet parents to lower the environmental impact of their pet’s diet. Feeding mealworms and other insects to pets can help preserve biodiversity, reduce water usage and the overall impact of agriculture on the planet.

Commercial Poultry & Swine

Insects are a natural part of pig and poultry diets. Natural diets, including insects, improve gut health and reduce the need for antibiotic use. Chitin and natural antimicrobial peptides found in mealworms can further this positive impact, helping farmers to raise healthier animals.
