Beta Hatch grows insects (mealworms) for animal feed and produces insect manure (frass) for fertilizer.

Our first eggs have hatched, and the mealworms are growing. It takes about 10-12 weeks from egg to harvest, so we are expecting our first large-scale harvest in January.

Insect frass

Frass, also known as insect poop, is a great natural fertilizer for plants. This 2-3-2 fertilizer contains a balanced mix of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium to help your indoor and outdoor plants grow! Frass also contains a high amount of chitin, which helps to boost plant immune defenses.

Recommended uses

Frass is great for indoor plant use, since it is odor free, contains no insects or insect eggs, and can be added dry to small pots or trays.

Frass is also a great addition to soil, because this chitin-rich product helps defend against soil nematodes and pathogens while replenishing essential nutrients. Use outdoors on vegetables and flowering plants.

Mealworms are an excellent source of protein and essential amino acids. At more than 50% protein, and 25% fat, our mealworms provide the nutrition needed for healthy birds. Feed your flock with only the highest quality mealworms- most mealworms on the market are imported from overseas. We farm our mealworms in urban Seattle using American-grown organic ingredients. Think global and buy local!

Recommended uses

Backyard chickens deserve this healthy treat! Our mealworms are a favorite among all types of birds, from chickens and quail to migrating songbirds. Supplement your bird’s diet with a few scoops each week.

Commercial chicken farms can also benefit from feeding mealworms to their birds. Insects have a positive impact on bird immune systems, minimizing the need for antibiotics in commercial farming. Contact us for bulk pricing!
